Leaders with social and environmental awareness
The Gimnasio Moderno dreams of a community where each of its members feels like “a factor of change”, on a personal, social and environmental scale. For this, it is sought that in all the activities carried out by the school there is a fundamental component, oriented towards the development and strengthening of the feeling of self-esteem, where the real value of each person’s actions is given. Another fundamental component is contact with real situations through project work, which links students with the solution of local and global problems.
Administratively, the fact of being more in contact with the immediate reality (neighbors, rural areas, other cities …), implies that the school has agreements with mayors and local centers, farms, factories, non-governmental organizations, artistic collectives in nearby towns or any other type of organization dedicated to social development. In these places the students would make their interventions in the company of their teachers and with the guidance and support of some parents. Students will go to these places to assess reality, make exchanges, field trips, level experiences and interventions of all kinds.
Environmentally, it seeks to consolidate the Environmental Sustainability Project as a regional benchmark for education and care for the environment, with the school being an example of resource care and pedagogical innovation to face global crises in this area. It is also proposed that students recover the technical task and resume the learning of art and craft trades, where the connection with nature allows resources to be valued and used to the maximum. This implies the generation of free spaces to cultivate a large percentage of the food ingredients for the school, where the students are responsible for planting, caring for, monitoring, collecting and thus participating in the entire cycle of value generation. It is intended that students, in the year 2027, as in the past, in the field they choose, each from their own talents, continue to be an example of leadership for innovation, freedom, honesty and democracy, people who leave school to make a difference, humanely and professionally.
