External Projection

The Gimnasio Moderno is a benchmark of cultural, artistic and philosophical memory, and an alternative proposal for the city and the country. Few schools like the Gimnasio have, apart from a vocation for service, the responsibility to project themselves towards society in areas that often overcome the barrier of the pines that define its campus. For this reason, within its external projection it is worth mentioning the commitment to transfer and share its pedagogical model and Positive Education (as has been done with the Colegio Gimnasio Sabio Caldas (IED), in Ciudad Bolívar; the Sathya Sai School of Values Humans, in Funza; the Gimnasio La Salada, in Segovia, Antioquia; the Secretary of Education of Cundinamarca; or some schools in Peru) as well as the projects that come from areas such as the Cultural and Scientific Agenda, the Chapel, the Library, the Cultural Center and the Pool, among others.

The Cultural and Scientific Agenda

The agenda, one of the pillars of this external projection, will be positioned in 2027 as a fundamental benchmark for the cultural sector and will be the place where the most important events in the capital take place. Its three lines of action (promotion, training and dissemination) have allowed citizens to recognize the Gimnasio as a cultural asset of the country. By 2027, Gimnasio Moderno should be the most important cultural life center in the country, a benchmark for arts, literature and science, and should continue to be a leader in the sector and develop, in response to its objectives, the following actions:

The literary festival Las Lineas de su Mano will be recognized nationally and internationally as one of the most important literary events on the continent, not only for the quality of the guests but also for the impact on the capital population of various strata and sectors, thanks to public-private alliances with different actors in the environment. Taking advantage of the Department of Education, the Agenda will increasingly promote training workshops in different disciplines of art and knowledge. The teacher educators must be outstanding artists in the medium and with wide international projection. This will allow them to be the most prestigious and desired workshops by the community.

The Publications Fund of the Cultural Agenda, with Cuadernos Ex Libris and Los Torreones, will continue to publish in print and digital editions, the intellectual and academic productions of our teachers and other members of the community, and the texts of the writers who visit us in different events. By 2027, the Gimnasio will continue to invite at least one great intellectual of universal recognition, such as Nobel Prizes, Pulitzer, Cervantes, Hans Christian Andersen, Princess of Asturias, Casa de las Américas, among others per year, that allow the projection of the Gimnasio to go beyond borders of the country thanks to the media exposure and the impact of these visits. In 2027 these facilities will have a parallel virtual development, which consolidates the school as a benchmark for cultural innovation.

In the year 2027 the Gimnasio Moderno will hold a great Culture Festival that during one weekend will host the most important artists of the moment in all areas within its pines. Thus, for three days the entire campus will be an immense musical, literary, and artistic setting. A “Festival” model of all artistic expressions. In the coming years, the school will become a scientific benchmark, just as it is today in the cultural area. The Environmental Sustainability Project will be consolidated as an example of environmental education on a regional scale, and the school will host the greatest authorities in mathematics, physics, biology, active pedagogies, in all its academic and cultural spaces, fostering communities of learning with creative and stimulating teachers and research centers.

For its part, the Cultural Center will continue to be, in 2027, “The ideal environment for culture in Bogotá” and will host, as it does today, the most important cultural events in the city. By that time, the library will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will be connected to the best public and university libraries in the world. It will be a very complete library, open to the public and specialized in humanities and pedagogy. Likewise, the Gimnasio Moderno will have a temporary residence for visiting and exchange teachers and artists.

In the coming years the school will formally present its Scientific Agenda: just as the school is one of the most important cultural centers in Latin America today,  it will also become one in science.
